New Milk Supplier

We are very excited to have found a new milk supplier, Berkeley Farm Organic Dairy.   This is great news as they are very local, based just up the road in Wroughton and the milk is organic.   Berkeley Farm Dairy is owned and run by the Gosling family who have been producing and supplying milk since 1908.  They use traditional methods of milk processing which focus on taste rather than convenience.  They pasteurise the milk but do not homogenise like most dairies. Homogenising breaks down the milk fats which they think affects the taste. Berkley Farm milk has a traditional ‘cream line’ which is only seen in milk that has not been homogenised. Our customers have told us that they love the taste.  Why don’t you come down to the shop to buy some milk and see if you can taste the difference?

We have been able to keep the prices down and the 500ml and 1 litre products are a bit cheaper than our old supplier.

Milk quantity Previous Price New Supplier Price
500ml 63p 58p
1 litre £1.00 99p

We are also selling their Luxury Guernsey whole milk in 1 litre bottles for £1.05.

Volunteer News

Lots of our volunteers enjoyed a New Year party at the beginning of January which was a lovely social event.   Why not join our team?   It is a great way to meet people and make new friends.  We need volunteer shop assistants, but if you don’t want to be in the public eye there are lots of other things you could do to help such as baking, cleaning or helping with deliveries or  collection of supplies.   We don’t expect you to volunteer at the same time every week unless you want to.   If you can only help occasionally we would also be grateful for this.    Any help however small is gratefully received.   Full training will be given.

If you think you would like to volunteer, please call Lyn, Lynda or Holly at the shop on 01672 539200.

Charity Donations

Thank you to everyone who has put money in our collection boxes on the counter.   This year we are collecting for Prospect Hospice.  The money raised from sales of carrier bags last year was £78.20 and has been passed onto The Harbour Project, our nominated charity for last year.

We also collect tins and packets of food for the Devizes Food Bank.

Local Deliveries

Please don’t forget that we can deliver to you if you are unable to come into the shop.   Just give us a ring on the number at the top of this article.

New Products

We have lots of lovely new products in stock.   Check out our new fudge and shortbread boxes with photographs courtesy of one of our volunteers Angela Norman.

We also have some lovely individual cheesecakes and some vegetarian slices, vegetarian scotch eggs and beautiful layered pies.

Meet The Team – Lynda

Meet the Team – Lynda

Lynda Saunders is one of our shop managers.   She shares the job with Lyn Bennett-Nutt.   Lynda was brought up in Swindon and now lives in Winterbourne Monkton.   She started volunteering in the shop shortly after she moved here and then became relief manager before being appointed manager about 3 years ago.   Lynda enjoys meeting the customers and getting to know locals.   Her favourite products are Vicarage Lane Cakes and flapjacks; her husband likes the Ramsbury Beers.   Lynda spends a lot of her spare time with her 3 grandchildren (she looks far too young to be a granny!).   She also enjoys travelling, going to the theatre and all Winterbourne Monkton’s social activities such as the Wine Club and the Village club.

Thank You to The National Trust

Thank you to the National Trust for providing us with Hope Cottage and for maintaining the property for us so well.   The National Trust provides us with the building at a very low rent in recognition of the valuable service we provide to the local community.   We are very grateful for this support, because without such a lovely building in the heart of the village we would not be able to function.

Meet the Team – Josh

IMG0118AJosh is one of our youngest volunteers.   He started volunteering at the shop two years ago before he went to university.   He enjoyed working in the shop so much that he has come back again this summer to help in his holidays.

Josh is studying Computer Science at the University of Hertfordshire and has just finished his first year.   His ambition is to be a programmer as he loves solving problems.

Josh’s favourite product is Olive bread which he likes as it is difficult to find in other shops.

Josh enjoys volunteering because of the fantastic managers we have in the shop.   He also loves talking to the customers and especially all our visitors from far and wide.

Picnic Time

picnic 2If you are planning a picnic, don’t forget that the shop stocks lots of things to help.   We have cold meats, pies, slices, vegetarian pies and vegetarian pasties, fruit, yoghurts, drinks, crisps and everything you could need to make your picnic go with a swing.
